Day OneFort Dauphin to Ambondro village:
Here you get to meet, and have a glimpse into the life of the Tandroy people, a local tribe in the Spiny Forest. They are very proud of their culture and demonstrate for visitors how they weave the traditional lamba - cloth, by hand. Visitors are given a chance to try their hand at the weaving and if you're not happy with your handywork, you can buy some crafts made by the local professionals! You also get to meet an ombiasa Tandroy - a traditional healer or witchdoctor who has been known to tell people's fortune. The Tandroy people love to teach the Spiny Forest dance to visitors so if you enjoy dancing, be prepared to show your moves and join in around the fire at night after a day of village life.
Day TwoAmbondro village to Betioky:
Along this road we get to visit a few of the different tribes such as the Mahafaly tribe and the Antandroy tribe, and see how the culture of each tribe differs. You may notice that the flora and fauna start to change as we move further west, and as I point out the birds, plants and trees that are unique to this area.
Day ThreeBetioky to Bezahamahafaly Nature Reserve:
This is where we get to see one of the most famous species in Madagascar, the lemur! During a night walk, we often look out for Madagascar's smallest primate - the Mouse lemur. This nature reserve is also home to the Ring-tailed, Sifaka, Sportive and Brown lemurs, as well a variety of birds, plants and trees which I will be happy to show you.
In the town of Toliara, there is plenty to do. There are lots of nice places to eat where you can sample the local fare, bars where you can play pool or grab a drink and museums to check out such as at the University of Toliara. There are also big markets in town with tons to see whether you're a shopper or just a people-watcher.
Here you are able to take a trip on a Vezo Pirogue - dugout fishing boat, to see some amazing coral reefs and go snorkeling. Or just take this time to enjoy the beautiful beach and maybe learn to surf. To finish up your trip, there is a ride in a Zebu cart that brings you through a forest of the famously unusual-looking Baobab trees.
