Suggested 5 days/11 days

If you're short on time in the area but want to check out some of the culture Fort Dauphine has to offer as well as the breathtaking surrounding scenery, this is may be the trip for you.

Day One

We spend a day touring the town of Fort Dauphin which includes walking around the Tanamboa market, checking out the Anosy museum, visiting the local village of Amparihy and the fishing village of Ampotatse where you can see how the locals make their living. We finish up the day with an evening swim at Libanona beach where we listen to music provided by a local band and eat some delicious local food prepared by Claude. Accommodation is provided by a hotel in town who give discounted rates to Korobo Tours guests.

Day Two

In the morning we get up early to take a short hike up the Saint Louis hills just outside town where we see the stunning sun rise over the Anosy Peninsula. In the afternoon we head towards the Faux Cap beach and you can sign up for surfing lessons! Both lunch and dinner are provided by the hotel recommended by Korobo Tours.

Day Three

We head 7 km outside of town and spend the day at the Nahampoana Reserve. Here you get to see some of Madagascar's most famous residents, the lemurs! Every lemur species native to the south of Madagascar lives in the park. During the early morning hours various groups of lemurs, such as Verreaux's Sifaka, Ring-tailed Lemur or Brown Lemur, usually play in the trees and on the ground near the old colonial house. Other animals in the park include chameleons, tortoises, crocodiles and a wide variety of birds. Oil Palm, Canela Cinnamon, Lemon Eucalyptus, young Baobab Trees and the conifer Arokaria are some of the trees you will see along the trails, as well as the Triangle Palm Tree which exists in Madagascar only around the area of Fort Dauphin. Lunch is provided by Korobo Tours.

Day Four

We can either rent bicycles or take the car out of town north towards Mananatantely. Along this road we can stop and do some short hikes though patches of the rain forest or climb the ancient Anosy hills which provide amazing views of the countryside and sea. Its usually a great spot for an afternoon picnic which is provided by Korobo Tours.

Day Five

If you are not extending your tour, it ends here in Fort Dauphin where Claude can recommend some things to see and do in the area before you fly out.

Day Six and Seven

We spend the next two days visiting the fishing village of Evatraha, and the Lokaro Beach area, known as the best beach in the South East of Madagascar. We travel there in a 4x4 vehicle as well as by pirogue (fishing boat). We camp on the beach and eat some delicious food prepared by Claude.

Day Eight and Nine

We spend time visiting the villages of the area and see how some of the locals make their living by weavings mats, hats and bags. There are miles of lovely walks along the coast facing into the Indian Ocean, with plenty of opportunity for swimming and snorkeling. We finish up the evening camping on the beach with some fresh fish for dinner cooked over the fire. Lunches are provided by Korobo Tours.

Day Ten

We make our way back to towards Fort Dauphin in our 4x4 vehicle and along the way we pass through the Mandromoromotsy commune where we see how the villagers make their living from their rice fields.

Day Eleven

The last day in Fort Dauphin is yours but we finish up the evening and the tour by getting together to listen to local bands from different tribes - a band from the Spiny forest and one from the Anosy region. Hearing how different their music is from one another gives a great sense of how diverse Madagascar is, with strong Asian and African influences.
